Don't do it! Don't buy a plug cutter and waste your time trying to make wooden plugs. You will never find a cutter which will make plugs that are as good as the ones that you can buy from Widget. The plugs are near to being perfect. They are also incredibly cheap when you factor in your time to make the plugs. I build small wooden boats and I buy all my plugs from Widget. I'll offer one caveat to my praise for Widget's plugs. I recently bought 5/16" and 1/2" mahogany plugs and all of them were noticeably lighter in color than the plugs that I previously bought. I was disappointed by this and in the future I will ask for samples before I place an order.

Every piece we have obtained from Widget over the past couple of years has been of first quality. The wood has been cut accurately and blends in beautifully in our repairs. We appreciate that this company is available to provide these needed products.

Accidentally drilled to deep on a hole for ground wire on bridge so drilled another matching hole of equal distance and used the plugs. Looks like I meant to do it. PERFECT! Great product and easy fix because of it. Thank you.

I purchased these face grain mahogany plugs in a number of sizes - 1/2", 5/16", 1/4", 3/8" and 7/16" - for guitar body work and they fit the bill perfectly. The quality of the wood and grain pattern is very nice and the diameters all accurate in size. In addition, WidgetCo communicates well with customers and ships promptly.

1/2" mahogany plugs
Great service got the plugs ahead of estimated delivery. The plugs looked nice, they were cut nice and clean, two minor complaints with them though. The way they were cut obscured the grain on probably half of them making it hard to line up the work and plug grains, and there were quite a few very light or blonde mahogany plugs that didn't match the traditional mahogany color on my project.
