They keep hurricane bolts clean of corrosion and dirt from one hurricane to the next. When I install these I place a very small amount of Vaseline on the valley of the screw. This makes the reinstall of the shutters a much easier job.

I first tried ordering these using Amazon, but they shipped the 1/4" x 1/2" instead. They were labelled as 1" long, but , in fact, were 1/2" long. When ordered directly from WidgetCo, I got the proper size, properly labelled.

Very hard to find these type of plastic caps to cover bolts that hang hurricane shutters; these arrived promptly and fit perfectly over the 1/4" bolt threads, and will protect the threads of the bolts from rust and damage. I will spray a little WD-40 under each cap.
