After a little trial and error, the 42 fits the opening of the jar. I had originally ordered size 40 and it almost fell through. After sitting in the house for a week, it did fall through (shrinkage?). These corks are great, but if you are struggling like I did to find the right size, error on the larger size.

Repurposing a large used clean Yankee Candle Jar
I at first ordered a cork size 40 that was too small, returned it and bought a size 42 but that is still too small so I will next try a size 44! I just want to reuse the Yankee Candle Jar for something else now that the candle has burned away. The corks are very good quality by the way.
