The champagne and wine stoppers were used as a cork background for a new paludarium (mix of aquarium and terrarium with live plants and animals). The photo shows day 1 after terrestrial plantings, but before the creepers and aquatic plants are added. Eventually the enclosure will include shrimp, fish, frogs, etc.

Champagne Corks - Miniature Painting Handles
I ordered 25 champagne corks as I wanted to use them as miniature painting handles. I boiled them a couple of minutes to restore the corks in their original shapes, and they are fantastic.

Used Champagne Corks for Orchids
I have been growing orchids for 45 years and realized many years ago that epiphyte orchids (tree dwelling) will grow in live trees, but not dead (decaying ones) trees as their roots will rot there. Cork bark decays very slowly -- why we use it for wine. Of all the tree barks we could use -- cork is the best. So, I have been mounting orchids on cork for years and some decades ago started making orchid potting mix from cork. Champagne corks are irregular in shape and less expensive than regular corks and make for a good mix. I use a brush cutter to chop up the corks. The corks I get from WidgetCo are clean -- ready to use.

I searched all over the web including Amazon and its affiliates and this was by far and away the best price for this specific niche product. The order came swiftly and indeed was a big box of champagne corks, just as I ordered. I was confused over whether the corks had been cleaned and sterilized as there was no mention of that but I can run them through the dishwasher myself I suppose.
